Changes in transformer technology: What it means for resilience and reliability in years to come

Jon Trout is Manager of Transmission Design for FirstEnergy, an electric utility headquartered in Akron, Ohio. FirstEnergy is involved in distribution, transmission, and generation of electric power. Trout previously worked with transformer manufacturers to supply FirstEnergy with reliable electric power system equipment. He has experienced many changes in the world of transformer technology over the years, and we were curious to find out what changes he considers to be the most important.

Alan Ross spoke with Trout about what changes he’s seen so far in terms of design, manufacturing, and application, and how those changes might affect resiliency and reliability in years to come.
