Mobile Substation Powers Hunt Area After Texas Floods
In response to severe flooding in the Texas Hill Country earlier this month, the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) has delivered a mobile substation transformer to help restore stable power to the Kerrville Public Utility Board (KPUB) service area in Hunt, Texas.
The Hunt Substation, operated by KPUB, sustained extensive damage after being inundated with 6 to 8 feet of water. To maintain power, KPUB initially rerouted electricity through the Ingram Substation, which officials say was not intended to serve as a long-term solution.
Now, with the arrival of the 171,000-pound mobile substation — a unit comprising 11 axles and 42 wheels — KPUB can provide uninterrupted service directly to Hunt-area customers during the extended repair process.
In a statement, KPUB expressed gratitude to LCRA for the deployment of the temporary system, which ensures continued energy delivery while permanent infrastructure is restored.
The LCRA is a key wholesale power supplier for Central Texas and manages the lower Colorado River and the Highland Lakes system.
