Mintia Power Station Receives Transformers and Turbines from Felbermayr
Felbermayr has completed one of its largest logistics projects by delivering over 34,000 tonnes of equipment for the Mintia gas and steam power station conversion project in Romania, scheduled for completion in late summer 2025.
Among the heavy cargo, three transformers weighing up to 313 tonnes each were transported from China to Romania via seagoing vessels and inland waterways, including the Danube and Tisza rivers. The transformers were moved using specialized Self-Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) and large side girder bridges, overcoming significant logistical challenges such as narrow roads, old bridges, and route restrictions in Hungary and Romania.
The transport included complex multimodal stages—sea, inland waterway, and road haulage—highlighting Felbermayr’s expertise in managing heavy, oversized loads. Installation teams from Felbermayr’s Engineered Solutions division carefully positioned the transformers on prepared foundations using advanced lifting and shifting systems, including hydraulic jacks and lifting frames.
This project supports the conversion of the Mintia coal-fired power plant into a 1,700 MW gas and steam power station, which will be the largest of its kind in the EU upon commissioning.
