Toshiba Expands Power Equipment Capacity with New Plant in Rudraram, India
Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems India (TTDI), a subsidiary of Toshiba Corporation, has inaugurated a new manufacturing facility in Rudraram, Telangana, aimed at strengthening India’s energy infrastructure capabilities.
The new facility features a cold rolled grain-oriented (CRGO) core processing center with an annual capacity of 12,000 tons, and a surge arrester production line capable of producing 80,000 units per year. This development aligns with TTDI’s broader growth strategy to meet both domestic and international market demands for transmission and distribution solutions.
In addition to the launch, TTDI has also initiated construction on an extra-high-voltage (EHV) power transformer production line that will, upon completion, increase its total production capacity to 42,000 MVA per year.
The facility is part of a $70 million (JPY 10 billion) investment announced earlier this year through a memorandum of understanding with the Government of Telangana, expected to create over 250 direct jobs over the next three years.
Hiroshi Furuta, Chairman and Managing Director of TTDI, said the investment will enhance Toshiba’s manufacturing footprint in India and support the delivery of sustainable, high-quality energy solutions.
The new site underscores Toshiba’s commitment to India’s growing energy market and to the global shift toward more efficient and resilient power infrastructure.
