Egypt Boosts Power Grid with $228 Million Investment in Substations

14 Aug 2025
The Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company, a state-backed entity, plans to invest approximately 11 billion Egyptian pounds ($228 million) in constructing new power substations and expanding its transmission network. This initiative aims to enhance the country's electrical infrastructure ahead of the summer of 2026, a period when electricity demand is expected to reach 40,000 megawatts (MW) per day.

Last week, the company inaugurated the Badrashin transformer station in Giza governorate, built at a cost exceeding 1 billion Egyptian pounds. The new facility will supply power to several local areas including Badrashin, Ayat, Abu El Nomros, and Hawamdiya.

The remaining funds will be invested in multiple phases, focusing on building distribution substations in Manshiyat Qanater, Al-Manawat, Abu Al-Numrus, and Al-Ayyat, all within Giza governorate. The project is part of Egypt’s broader strategy to strengthen its power grid and support rising energy needs, especially during peak summer months.
